Helping Veterans

Citizens Advice Bournemouth Christchurch & Poole recently trained its Advisers on how to help veterans using training guides provided by the Armed Forces Covenant. A veteran is anyone who has served in the armed forces.

The awareness training our Advisers have received covers areas such as financial capability following life in the armed forces, access to healthcare, mental well being, skills and education issues with CV writing (including civilianising military experience and qualifications), interview skills, cultural differences and strains on family life.

Citizens Advice is recognised by the Armed Forces Covenant as a charity for whom to refer veterans to for help and information.  Citizens Advice provides dedicated help for armed forces and veterans on areas such as pensions, benefits and concessions, and housing.

Latest data regarding veterans and serving personnel is available via the Dorset Armed Forces Covenant Programme.

Further information regarding cadets, reservists, and guides for employers employing reservists is available via: www.wessex-rfca.org.uk
